Colorado State University’s Fashion Group International student chapter will be hosting its annual recycled fall fashion show on Nov. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Lory Student Center on CSU’s campus.
Transforming art into fashion
This year’s fashion show title is Pop Couture: Off the Canvas and Onto the Runway. The show’s theme is inspired by the 1960s pop art movement.
“Many renowned fashion designers have been inspired by art,” said Taylor Jaquez, a campus officer for FGI. “Our aim for this year’s fashion show is to illustrate how a single garment can become a part of history, an artifact of culture, and a piece of artwork.”
This fashion show is produced solely by FGI student members. Student committees are in charge of stage and décor, modeling, garments, fundraising and publicity for the show.
Challenging traditional views of design
The majority of the garments featured in the show are made from recycled materials and designed by students in the Department of Design and Merchandising, within the College of Health and Human Sciences of CSU. There is also a category for non-recycled garments, and all students are encouraged to enter a design.
“Not all students showcase their talent on a field or court; some of us perform on the stage, or, more specifically, the runway,” said Daniele Croteau, this year’s FGI president. “This year’s recycled fall fashion show will feature the amazing talents of CSU designers as we transport you into a 1960s-esque world of garments that challenge traditional views of design.”
After the show, a selection of the garments will be displayed for students, faculty and visitors to take a closer look in the Gustafson Gallery in the Gifford Building, which is on the south side of campus, near Lake Street.
Tickets for the fashion show are available for purchase at the CSU Box Office in the LSC or online.
