Colorado State Forest Service Woodland Park District celebrated by Employee Appreciation Board

Story by Simone Short

On Dec. 5, the Employee Appreciation Board recognized the Colorado State Forest Service Woodland Park District for their hard work, professionalism and synergy.

The Woodland Park District (WPDS) is a small group of foresters and support staff that excels in every aspect of the mission of the Colorado State Forest Service at Colorado State University. The district currently has a district forester, three full-time foresters, an administrative assistant and one seasonal employee. Each employee not only works hard to meet the expectations of their individual jobs, but they also go above and beyond to ensure that the expectations of the district are exceeded. Their professionalism and willingness to work diligently has earned the WPDS the respect and credibility of other state and local agencies, nonprofits and county residents.

The district consistently works with innovation and efficiency to accomplish its goals. They currently hold records as the top district in the Colorado State Forest Service with regard to:

* 16,000 treated acres annually

* 31 Firewise Communities

* 27,000 seedling tree sales annually

* 71 Forest Ag participants

WPDS also works annually to maintain the Colorado Springs Utilities Pikes Peak Watershed contract, one of the largest contracts for forest management held on a local district. The Employee Appreciation Board recognized this group by giving its members CSU swag, Mary’s Mountain Cookies and a note of appreciation in December.

EAB recognition

The CSU Employee Appreciation Board, originally formed in 1968, recognizes employees for their hard work and promotes community spirit among CSU faculty and staff through events such as breakfasts or luncheons. Each month, the Board hosts a prize drawing for all faculty and staff who submit an entry form, including a coveted reserved parking space for a full month.

The board meets monthly during the academic year to discuss and plan employee recognition events, as well as to help promote university events. One of the main objectives of the board is the monthly recognition of a group, entity or college.
