The Rocky Mountain Collegian and Collegian.com both received top honors at the Society of Professional Journalists Region 9 Conference last month in Salt Lake City.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian was named the “Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper” and Collegian.com the “Best Affiliated Web Site” as part of the SPJ’s Mark of Excellence Awards, which recognize collegiate journalism. It is the second consecutive year that each outlet has won the award.

In addition, three CSU students were recognized for their work. Abbie Parr won first place in Breaking News Photography for her photo “Start of a new Senate,” and Tatiana Parafiniuk-Talesnick and Erin Douglas were each finalists in the General News Reporting category.

Region 9 is made up of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. First-place winners advance to the national Mark of Excellence competition against winners from the 12 SPJ regions. Those result will  be announced in late spring.
