“CSU is a great place for students to go and get a quality education while connecting with students, teachers and ideas.”

During the 2022-23 academic year, we are highlighting one Colorado State University student or alum from each of Colorado’s 64 counties. The Centennial State’s land grant university has a connection to the diverse lands and people from the counties of Moffat to Baca, Montezuma to Sedgwick and everywhere in between.

Rachelle Siefkas

Major: Agricultural Business (2018 graduate)

Why I chose CSU: I chose CSU because I knew that I would get an education and still feel like I was part of a community.

My favorite thing about CSU: The people.

Clubs/organizations in college: Ed Alliance, Premier Farm Credit Student Board, Study Abroad

Scholarships/awards in college: Department of Agriculture & Resource Economics (AREC) Outstanding Junior, Department of AREC Outstanding Senior, CSU AG Day Scholarship, American Agcredit Scholarship, Gilman Scholarship, E J EArly Ag Scholarship, CHS Scholars Award, Richard & Shirley Blake AG Scholarship, Harris/US Ag Bank Scholarship, Bill & Theresa Hertneky Scholarship (among others)

Favorite achievement: Winning the Colorado State Fair in Clothing Construction. It took 11 years of projects, practice and knowledge to get to that point.

Career goals: To always work in agriculture to help the producer.

Favorite instructor(s): Dr. Andy Seidl: His AREC 340 and AREC 460 class. He took economic theories and applied it to real world issues. This led to discussions as well as understanding the world around us.

I’d like to thank: All the teachers (especially Frasier and Koontz who stressed critical thinking), my friends who I met at CSU that are lifelong friends, and my community for giving me the scholarships to get my education.

Favorite NOCO food and hangouts: Krazy Karl’s, Sundance, downtown Fort Collins

Quirky fact about you: I competed in square dancing for 4 years (my class always lost lol)

Favorite CSU tradition: CSU Ag Day Game

What do you tell people from Bent County about CSU: CSU is a great place for students to go and get a quality education while connecting with students, teachers and ideas.

Something people should know about Bent County: A lot of times people don’t understand what the plains have to offer. We have historical sites, lakes, reservoirs and community events. There is more to small communities if you just get involved.

Biggest adversity you’ve overcome at CSU: People underestimating me because I came from rural Colorado.
