Artists wanted for project at Lory Student Center

Artists wanted!

CSU-RidesThe Lory Student Center Arts Program has received a donation to secure the funding for four local artists to put their art on display in the LSC Commons area. This generous gift allows the LSC to provide a stipend to local artists participating in the project.

Encountering Colorado is a project in which the LSC is capturing expressions of our Northern Colorado culture in visual art, while at the same time providing an opportunity for local artists to display their works in a highly trafficked space. Artworks take the form of two-sided panels installed in the railings of the commons area, near the Ramskeller. Since the revitalization of the LSC, this area has been intentionally designed to honor CSU’s place in Colorado, and includes an abstract representation of the Poudre River and the Front Range as visible from CSU. Encountering Colorado gives artists the chance to share what makes northern Colorado such a wonderful place, beyond our physical geography. Local artists can create their panels based on Northern Colorado culture, appreciation, recreation, history and more.

The first panel that has been installed is “CSU Rides” by Chris Gugelman. Gugelman created his panel from recycled bicycle parts from CSU’s Ram Wheels project. “CSU Rides” portrays the local Fort Collins culture of commitment to sustainable transportation.
