Want to keep the cannon firing at CSU games? Buy a BOOM!

CSU’s cannon, nicknamed “Comatose,” has been a game-day tradition for nearly a century.

BOOM!

The unmistakable sound of the cannon firing during CSU home football games is a proud link that connects the Aggies’ past to the Rams’ present and future. The reverberating BOOM from Comatose, the cannon, has been a CSU football tradition since 1920 – one no true Rams fan can ignore.

CSU ROTC cadets are charged with firing Comatose and, until recently, the U.S. Army supplied 75mm blank shells for the 1918 French Howitzer cannon mounted on a 1941 retrofitted carriage. However, the Army no longer provides shells for athletics events.

CSU_StateYourPurposeSolid_RGB_357Each cannon round costs approximately $50, and the more the Rams score, the higher the cost per football game. But there is no sound sweeter to Rams fans, nor more discouraging to opponents.
