Transgender Day of Remembrance set for Nov. 17
by CSU MarComm Staff | November 8, 2016 11:08 AM
Transgender Day of Remembrance is dedicated to memorialize and honor the transgender lives lost to violence and hate. Colorado State University’s Pride Resource Center[1] will observe TDOR on Nov. 17 this year; the international event[2] to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community takes place on Nov. 20, when CSU is closed for Fall Break.
The campus event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in the Pride Resource Center on the main level of the Lory Student Center with two speakers, hot cocoa and cookies, and then move outside for a candlelight vigil on the plaza. During the vigil, there will be a reading of names of transgender people who have been murdered in 2016.
TDOR was founded in 1999 to memorialize Rita Hester, a transgender woman of color who was murdered in Massachusetts.
