Three students in CSU’s creative writing program have won awards in the Intro Journals Project, a literary competition for the best new work from students at institutions that belong to the Association of Writers and Writing Programs.

CSU took three of the 28 awards given in the annual contest, the most of any college or university in the association’s 550 member institutions. CSU students have won five of the awards over the past three years.

In the poetry category, Cedar Brant won for “Make Blood,” which will be published in Quarterly West in June. Among works of fiction, Nathaniel Barron’s “From the Watchtower,” which will be published in Iron Horse Review, was also a winner.

“Moving Forward, In Russian,” by Emily Ziffer, won an honorable mention in the creative nonfiction category.

The Association of Writers and Writing Programs provides support, advocacy, resources and community to nearly 50,000 writers, 550 college and university creative writing programs and 150 writers’ conferences and centers. Its mission is to foster literary achievement, advance the art of writing as essential to a good education, and serve the makers, teachers, students and readers of contemporary writing.
