Wireless communication has so many applications beyond simply texting between friends.
Xuemin (Sherman) Shen will look at two of them – delivering health care beyond medical facilities and improving Internet access in moving vehicles – in the next ISTeC Distinguished Lectures on Nov. 17. Both lectures are free and open to the entire CSU campus and community.
Shen is professor and University Research Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
His first hour-long talk will be held at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Library Event Hall, and will be preceded by a reception at 10:30 a.m. Shen will discuss the applications and design challenges of using Wireless Body Area Network technology to provide remote health care to patients anywhere, around the clock.
Vehicle Communications Networks
Shen’s second talk of the day will be held in Engineering Building B3, 3-4 p.m. and will cover the design and applications of Vehicle Communications Networks (VANET) and how to deliver better connectivity and smoother video to passengers traveling at high speed through connectivity zones.
In addition to his research on wireless communication management and university appointment, Shen is a Fellow of IEEE and editor-in-chief of IEEE Network, Peer-to-Peer Networking and Application, and IET Communications, and has served as guest editor of many other publications in the field. He has received many awards for his teaching and research.
These ISTeC Distinguished Lecture are presented in conjunction with the CSU Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
