Colorado State University and the Denver Broncos announced Tuesday that the Rams’ football program will conduct a spring scrimmage at the Broncos’ Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Centre at Dove Valley on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. MT.
CSU’s expanding partnership with the Denver Broncos is providing football fans with the unique opportunity to see the Rams practice on the same fields used by Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas and other professional stars.
Connecting with Denver fans
The Rams, under the direction of first-year coach Mike Bobo, will hold a scrimmage at 10 a.m. April 11 at the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Centre at Dove Valley. It will mark the fourth consecutive year the Rams have held a public scrimmage in the Denver area but the first time they have done so at the home of the NFL’s two-time Super Bowl-champion Broncos in Arapahoe County.
The scrimmage is open to current CSU season-ticket holders and Ram Club members who have renewed for 2015 by March 31.
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to bring our team to a first-class NFL facility and interact with our great fans in the Denver area,” Bobo said. “We’re very grateful that Joe Ellis, John Elway, Gary Kubiak and the Denver Broncos organization have made this opportunity available to us.”
Expanding partnership with Broncos
The Rams’ scrimmage at Dove Valley builds upon the strong partnership between CSU and the Broncos, which includes the Denver Broncos Sports Management Institute, launched in December 2014, and the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown played at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
“We are very excited to host Colorado State’s spring scrimmage at our recently upgraded training facility,” said Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis. “The scrimmage also will give us a chance to review the logistics of hosting a public practice following our facility upgrades as we prepare to welcome back fans for 2015 training camp.”
CSU begins spring practice March 10 at its on-campus practice fields. The annual Green and Gold Spring Game is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, to wrap up spring drills. That day also is “I Love CSU Day,” an annual celebration born in 2001 when then-Governor Bill Owens issued a proclamation designating April 18 for the annual day of recognition.
Rams looking good for 2015
CSU returns 15 starters, among the 22 offensive and defensive positions, from a team that won 10 games in 2014 and earned a berth in the Las Vegas Bowl. The returnees include junior-to-be wide receiver Rashard Higgins, who was a consensus All-American in 2014 and one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the outstanding receiver in college football. The Rams’ 18 combined wins in 2013-14 are their most in a two-season span since winning 18 in 1999-2000, and the back-to-back bowl berths are a first since 2002-03.
Admission policy
Admission to the Dove Valley scrimmage will be made available exclusively to CSU season ticketholders and Ram Club members who have renewed for 2015. Space is limited, and an e-mail will be sent to individuals who have renewed prior to the March 31 renewal deadline, containing instructions to RSVP for the April 11 event.
