Professor of Soil and Crop Sciences Raj Khosla has been recognized as the 2015 Precision Agriculture Educator of the Year by the PrecisionAg Institute. Khosla, who also serves as assistant dean for international programs in the College of Agricultural Sciences, was nominated for several research breakthroughs including: Economic Feasibility of Precision Nutrient Management; Improved Nitrogen Management; and, Precision Conservation. He received the award in St. Louis this week.
“I am indebted to the precision agriculture industry for supporting my research, teaching, and Extension program at CSU for many years,” said Khosla. “This award is another example of their continuous support. I am honored and thankful to the industry.”
Internationally-recognized
Khosla is a nationally- and internationally-known expert on precision agriculture, and he has been invited to give keynotes and invited talks at major regional, national and international conferences across the globe. In March, he was invited to speak at the Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture in the United Arab Emirates. Following his selection as the Jefferson Science Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences, Khosla was appointed to work at the U.S. State Department as Senior Science Advisor on Food Security, position that he currently holds.
Defining the field of precision agriculture
“In many ways, Professor Khosla has helped define the field of precision agriculture,” said Ajay Menon, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences. “The impact of his work has guided knowledge creation and agricultural practices in developed and developing countries. This latest honor serves to underscore the global scope and impact of his work, and brings great honor and recognition to the College of Agricultural Sciences.”
Khosla also has served as an associate editor of the Soil Science Society of America Journal for six years and is currently on the editorial board of the International Journal of Precision Agriculture. He is a Fellow of American Society of Agronomy; Fellow of Soil Science Society of America; Fellow of Soil and Water Conservation Society; and, Honorary Life Fellow of International Society of Precision Agriculture
