CSU diabetes study could help older adults with those new year’s resolutions

Looking to get in shape this new year? A study at CSU could help.

The Department of Health and Exercise Science is conducting research to investigate how the combination of exercise, diabetic medication and dairy products like yogurt work to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes in individuals 55 years of age or older. Those who have high blood sugar, have a family history of type 2 diabetes, and/or are overweight may qualify.

“This study was life-changing,” participant Janet Ahlstrom said. “For anyone interested in beginning a healthier lifestyle with a professional and caring staff, I highly recommend participating in this study!”

Participants will receive compensation as well as free:

  • Heart and blood screenings
  • Bone density scans
  • Standard treatment options to help prevent type 2 diabetes
  • Personal trainer with structured workout program

Benjamin Miller and Karyn Hamilton, faculty members in the Health and Exercise Sciences Department, are the principal investigators for the study.
