The Virtuoso Series at Colorado State University continues in March with a special interactive performance from CSU’s renowned recital clarinetist Wesley Ferreira and guest New York pianist Daniel Fung.
The digitally driven recital takes place on Monday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall at the University Center for the Arts, located at 1400 Remington St.
With this special performance by Ferreira, the Virtuoso Series continues its mission of showcasing CSU’s music faculty performance talent.
One of the prominent clarinetists of his generation, Ferreira has been praised by critics for his “beautiful tone” and “technical prowess” (The Clarinet) as well as his “remarkable sensitivity” (CAML Review). Fanfare Magazine notes, Ferreira is “clearly a major talent.”
Ferreira currently leads an active and diverse career performing worldwide as a soloist, an orchestral and chamber musician, and an engaging adjudicator and clinician who is equally at ease performing the masterworks as well as contemporary pieces. He has been featured soloist with numerous wind bands and orchestras in North America and Europe, and has been broadcast nationally on both the Canadian and Australian Broadcasting Corporations.
His performance features the winning repertoire selections that were voted upon by the public on Ferreira’s website, including everything from classics like Brahm’s Clarinet Sonata No.2 to contemporary compositions like McAllister’s Bling, Bling. The performance explores the constant presence of the clarinet in composition and its presence in the current digital age of music.
Accompanying Ferreira is Canadian pianist Daniel Fung, who is an active performer as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative pianist. Performance highlights include concerts with the Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton Symphonies, and he has taken major prizes at the National Music Festival and Shean Competitions. He is an alumnus of the Académie Musicale Internationale “Barbara Krakauer,” Mozarteum Sommerakademie, and Music Academy of the West.

- $1 for youths (under 18)
- $12 for the public
Tickets are available at the University Center for the Arts (UCA) ticket office in the UCA lobby Monday through Friday, 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., and 60 minutes prior to performances, by phone at 970-491-ARTS (2787), or online. Youth tickets must be purchased in person at the ticket office. All tickets are subject to a $1 ticket fee for both online and at-the-door purchases. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended to avoid lines and further at-the-door fees.
