Students about to be surprised with pizzas from GM CEO Mary Barra.

GM CEO Mary Barra had pizza “pies” stealthily sent to the students in recognition of their hard work on the high-profile international competition, EcoCAR 3. Now in year 2 of the four-year competition, which is chiefly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and GM, CSU engineering students are busy retrofitting a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to perform as a parallel plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

The brand-new Chevy Camaro is currently in pieces at the Powerhouse Energy Campus, where the students work day and night on the retrofit. They’ll take the fully redesigned car to Yuma, Arizona, and San Diego for the Year 2 competition this summer.
