Give a student a helping hand on GivingTuesday

by CSU MarComm Staff | November 20, 2016 3:26 PM

One in 10 Colorado State University students struggles with food insecurity. Now you have the opportunity to change those odds.

Support Rams Against Hunger[1] with a gift on GivingTuesday, set for Nov. 29. Help CSU students thrive.

“Rams Against Hunger allowed me peace of mind when it came to eating a nutritious meal,” one student said. “It helped me survive and kept me from being hungry. It took a huge weight off my chest knowing that I didn’t have to worry as much about finding food.”

Giving_Tuesday_300[2]GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Featured fund

While you can support a number of CSU programs that help students, Rams Against Hunger[1] is the featured fund.

Rams Against Hunger provides emergency food relief to students who have no idea where their next meal is coming from or how to pay for it. More than 2,800 CSU students – nearly 10 percent of the campus – experience food insecurity.

Rams Against Hunger, supported by donations from faculty and staff, alumni and friends of the university, provide cards for use at CSU dining centers to get one or two meals a day.

Last year, supporters gave nearly $12,000 to support Rams Against Hunger. The goal this year is to provide 2,000 meals and raise $14,000 to help even more students.

Every gift helps:

  • $14 provides two meals
  • $35 provides a week of meals
  • $140 provides a month of meals

CSU_StateYourPurposeSolid_RGB_357[3]“When I first learned about this program, I really couldn’t believe it,” said a CSU student who benefits from Rams Against Hunger. “Not knowing where my next meal is coming from – despite working several jobs to pay for school on my own – is not something that I feel comfortable talking about. But it’s my real situation. I am so grateful for this program and the support it gives me.”

If you know of a student who could benefit from the Rams Against Hunger program, please donate[4].

In 2015, more than 400 donors gave $30,824 toward Rams Against Hunger and other programs on Giving Tuesday. To get involved with Giving Tuesday, visit http://giving.colostate.edu/giving-tuesday/[5].
