Environmental services unit honored by Employee Appreciation Board

The Environmental Services-Housing unit was recognized by the CSU Employee Appreciation Board on Oct. 12 at the Newsom Event Center. These hard-working and deserving individuals were honored by the EAB with a pizza lunch and CSU swag raffle.

envi-serviceNominated by Leisha Buell, housing operations manager, the Environmental Services-Housing unit consists of 107 employees who give their all to make CSU a safe, clean and happy place to live.

“I can’t say enough about this great group of people,” Buell states. “We are hard workers and we care very much about each other and our customers.”

“People may not realize all that the Environmental Services team does,” Buell wrote. “We tend to the cleanliness of the resident halls, cafeterias, offices and apartments, providing top-notch customer service. We do our best to make our residents/customers feel welcome and cared for. They see us on a daily basis, and we greet them with a warm, friendly smile, letting them know we care about them.”

During the summer months, things do not slow down for the Environmental Services staff. In addition to cleaning the residence halls and apartments after the students move out, they provide excellent customer service to the numerous conferences held on the CSU campus.

“We prep the buildings for the conferences coming in by providing linen on the beds and at times making the beds,” Buell said. “And after each conference leaves, we repeat the cleaning/set up. We have very tight turnarounds in between groups coming in. Sometimes just hours, maybe just a day. We have a lot of staff give up family time on the weekends to work overtime to provide high-quality customer service for our conference attendees. We want them to love our university as much as we do.”

“We also take on cleaning up after construction/remodels. The most recent is Aggie Village. We had staff give up their Sunday to come in to work to make sure the new apartments were ready for incoming residents the next day. So much to do, but everybody pulled together and got it done. The ES staff do that — we help each other out and don’t let anyone fail. We are a team. We are family!!”

Recognition for hard work

The CSU Employee Appreciation Board, originally formed in 1968, recognizes employees for their hard work and promotes community spirit among CSU faculty and staff through events such as breakfasts and luncheons. Each month, the Board hosts a prize drawing for all faculty and staff who submit an entry form, including a coveted reserved parking space for a full month.

The board meets monthly during the academic year to discuss and plan employee recognition events, as well as to help promote university events. One of the main objectives of the board is the monthly recognition of a group, entity or college.
