CSU student, faculty member honored by Colorado School of Public Health

Two members of the Colorado School of Public Health at CSU will receive awards from the school at its annual awards brunch on May 25.

Each year, the ColoradoSPH honors a group of individuals nominated by students, faculty and staff, to recognize both excellence and dedication in education and public health endeavors.

Chrissy Chard

Chrissy Chard, an assistant professor in CSU’s Department of Health and Exercise Science and a full-time faculty member in the ColoradoSPH at CSU, received the school’s award for Faculty Excellence in Mentoring and Advising.

“Dr. Chard goes above and beyond what is expected of her job requirements,” one of her nominators wrote. “She genuinely cares about providing students with a quality education, and is an advocate for their success. She embodies what it means to be a true professor, mentor, and public health professional that lives a holistically healthy lifestyle.”

Another added, “She is not only inspiring and motivating, but she is able to provide her students with support and understanding, and builds relationships with each and every one of them.”

CSU student Jamila Bryant, who graduates this month with her MPH degree in the physical activity and healthy lifestyle concentration, received a ColoradoSPH award for Outstanding Contribution by a Student.

According to her nomination materials, Bryant always makes herself available to conduct tours for interested and incoming students and has made significant contributions to the public health activities on campus and in the community.

She has spent a significant amount of time volunteering and engaging with community members in Denver, and always invites other MPH students to join her. In her first year in the MPH program, she recruited MPH students to go with her to Denver to conduct walkability assessments. Her most recent contribution has been as a participant in a video made by student veterans raising awareness about suicide prevention.
