CSU Employee Appreciation and Community Open House join for summer extravaganza

Ice_Cream_Social_2I scream, you scream, CAM screams for ice cream! This year the fun of the annual CSU Community Open House and Ice Cream Social will double with the addition of the CSU Employee Appreciation event. All campus and community members are invited to attend the extravaganza of the season on Aug. 10.

August 10
CSU Employee Appreciation 4 – 5 p.m.
Community Open House and Ice Cream Social 5-6:30 p.m.

The CSU Employee Appreciation event will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. and the Community Open House and Ice Cream Social will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the east lawn of the Student Recreation Center, located on the corner of Meridian and Plum streets.

Both events will feature a plethora of activities, kids’ play areas with inflatables and balloon artists, interactive booths from various campus divisions and colleges, giveaways, food trucks and, of course, free ice cream and beverages for all. In true Fort Collins fashion, there will also be live music during the event.

Ice_Cream_Social_1“We are excited to add CSU Employee Appreciation to our annual Community Open House and Ice Cream Social,” said Tom Milligan, vice president for external relations. “This event has always been about celebrating the special relationship between Colorado State and Fort Collins by welcoming the community to campus. Now we take this opportunity to also recognize the efforts of the dedicated CSU faculty and staff that make CSU such an inviting and extraordinary learning environment for our students. And I’m looking forward to hearing the extraordinary singer-songwriter Liz Barnez perform; she is one of the gems of the Fort Collins music scene.”

Barnez will play at both events. She started her musical career in the clubs on Bourbon Street in her hometown of New Orleans, and her acoustic swamp groove is apparent in her guitar playing, songwriting and soulful inspired singing.

“The CSU Employee Appreciation event will provide an opportunity to celebrate our amazing employee community at the university,” said Toni-Lee Viney, chair of the Administrative Professional Council. “CSU employees are a dedicated group who spend the whole year working hard to ensure our students’ experience is top-notch. This event is an opportunity for us all to pause and recognize that the work we do together is meaningful.”

Service and engagement

The event supports the university’s promise of service and engagement to the community. Outreach is among the pillars upon which CSU was founded and is an effort that continues today through interaction with Colorado communities and around the globe. This Commitment to Community is a reflection of the university’s promise of service and engagement to Colorado citizens, executed by providing resources, participating in events, and building community partnerships.
