CHHS Dean Jeff McCubbin presented the award at the CHHS All-College Awards and Reception on April 11.

Fontana graduated from the Construction Management Department in 1997 and returned in 2007 as the placement office coordinator. Since then she has taken on a multitude of additional projects and responsibilities. Her title has grown as well, and she now holds the position of Phelps Placement Office internship and outreach coordinator. Fontana approaches her job with a remarkable enthusiasm and creative energy that was noted by the multiple colleagues and students who wrote in support of her nomination.

Department head Mostafa Khattab said Fontana “embodies the personality, the passion and the character of an exceptional educator.”

Recent graduate Nicholas Bauman, who worked closely with Fontana as the former president of the Construction Management Student Board of Directors, also praised the support she offered to students. “She often stays late to help … and is always willing to attend any activity we run in case we need her, or to offer … helpful advice along the way.”

Fontana’s response shows the excitement that her nominators spoke of.

“It’s great when you love what you do, but when someone else takes the time to nominate you for making a difference, and you get recognized for it – that’s pretty awesome!” she said.
