Terry SchlictingTerry Schlicting, accommodations specialist at CSU’s Resources for Disabled Services office, has been a proud CSU Ram since his undergraduate years. Terry graduated in 2001 with a bachelor’s of science in psychology, and in 2015 earned a master’s in adult education and training, all while maintaining a career within the University. This year, he celebrates his 10-year milestone of working for CSU.

Schlicting acts as an advocate for students with disabilities across campus, and meets with many students daily to help them to thrive, succeed, and feel comfortable within the CSU community. He works to normalize the college sphere, and helps each student that comes through his door to develop as a learner and as an individual.

Celebrate! CSU Milestones

Colorado State University employees achieving a decade of service or more this year will be honored at the annual Celebrate! CSU Milestones event, which recognizes those faculty and staff who have reached major milestones. Celebrate! CSU Milestones will take place on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 4 p.m. in the LSC Grand Ballroom.

After growing up surrounded by classmates with diverse disabilities as well as dealing with his own mobility issues, Schlicting found himself wanting to become an active advocate for others. He enjoys that he gets to work with a wide array of students from different backgrounds with different needs.

“Seeing students be successful, and knowing that I can be part of their development as a person, is the most rewarding feeling,” Schlicting shared. Some of his favorite moments are when he can see individuals grow beyond the classroom and further involve themselves in the greater community.

Profound impact

Terry Infographic[1]Schlicting has had a profound impact on many people across campus, but none more so than his students. He provides an open environment where individuals have the opportunity to talk and openly express themselves, while also acting as a liaison between professors and students, and students and different campus departments, to help better their overall CSU experience.

One of Schlicting’s favorite things about CSU is the people. While many personal connections make his job fulfilling, he believes that the way interactions are shaped within the University has created a fantastic student-driven environment.

“I feel like students can have one-on-one interactions across campus, and that’s the wonderful thing about the connections here — students aren’t just a number,” he said. He cares deeply about each individual he meets, and works to make each interaction as positive as possible.

Schlicting has helped to create and continue a legacy of excellence within Resources for Disabled Students and Colorado State University as a whole.

As a native of Chicago, in his spare time, Schlicting enjoys watching the Cubs and Blackhawks play, eating Kansas City-style BBQ, and reading books.
