Celebrate! CSU Milestones: Jennifer Aberle, 15 years

Jennifer Aberle, director of the Human Development and Family Studies online degree program, and co-director of Undergraduate Studies, is celebrating her 15-year milestone with Colorado State University.
Aberle, who completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford and her graduate studies at CSU in Couple and Family Therapy and interdisciplinary studies in Education and Human Development, found her passion for helping others at a very young age. Her initial goal was to become a physician, to be able to provide care and resources to those who needed assistance.
As her undergraduate studies went on, she found herself surrounded by incredible mentors who led her to many meaningful opportunities and helped to show her what she had always known: There is a huge importance in the investment of others and that teaching is a spectacular way to do so.
“I think one of the most incredible things about working on this campus is the momentum that compels us to discover, reflect, and influence. The ability we have to grow, to learn how to listen and how to be influenced is an exceptional part of this university,” Aberle said.
Celebrate! Colorado State
Colorado State University employees achieving a decade of service or more this year will be honored at the annual Celebrate! CSU Milestones event, which recognizes those faculty and staff who have reached major milestones. Celebrate! CSU Milestones will take place on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at 4 p.m. in the LSC Grand Ballroom.
She spends her days teaching and working for the betterment of parents, partners and individuals’ relationships within her courses, and creates meaningful bonds with students, while also helping to impact them through her roles as a professional within the University sphere.
Complete degree online
CSU’s HDFS online degree program is the first of seven within the University to offer a complete bachelor’s online. This opportunity allows non-traditional students, or students unable to attend classes on campus, to have access to the same world-class HDFS degree offered in Fort Collins. Working to create resources and opportunities to help students – and seeing students succeed — is one of Aberle’s favorite parts of her job.
“It is incredibly satisfying to contribute to students’ development and learning and to know that I am part of something that makes a difference in their lives, and that they are growing in their own skills and competencies to contribute to their communities in meaningful and fulfilling ways,” Aberle explained. She loves that there is always potential to influence students outside of their education in ways that can help them to work and better understand themselves in daily life.
Aberle’s love of students and desire to make a difference in individuals’ lives has helped her to maintain an incredible program within the College of Health and Human Sciences. Although she significantly credits her mentors and teachers for her success and ability to connect with others, Aberle is a great mentor herself, and continues to provide a listening ear and open arms to students who need it the most.
Aberle is an exceptional member of the CSU community, and an outstanding leader within the department of Human Development and Family Studies, where the assistant professor also teaches several courses and serves as Non-Tenure Track Faculty Committee Chair,
In her free time, she enjoys swimming and paddle boarding in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain lakes, going to movies, participating in game nights, celebrating her faith, and attending sporting and arts events with her husband, three children, and extended family and friends.
