Cans helps feed Larimer County

CSU’s 28th annual Cans Around the Oval collected 47,470 pounds of food and $46,743 during this year’s effort. With each dollar counting for four pounds of food, the total impact of this year’s effort came to 234,444 pounds of food.

“The contribution from CSU students, faculty, staff and community members will have a significant impact on our community and will assist the Food Bank for Larimer County serve several of our hungry neighbors in our community,” said Jenn Rieskamp, program coordinator for CSU’s Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement office.

As the largest one-day food drive in northern Colorado, CSU partners with the Food Bank for Larimer County to raise food and monetary donations to help those in need in the community.

Cans Around the Oval helps more than 40,000 people who depend on the Food Bank for Larimer County. The donations from this one collection day can help these individuals for up to four months.

The four-week food drive began on Sept. 12 and concluded on Oct. 16. This is a community effort involving campus participants, local businesses and volunteer groups around Fort Collins.
