Information Systems (IS) will be migrating the ARIES Student Information System (SIS) and ODS databases to a Linux platform June 18-19. Systems that will be affected include RAMweb, ARIESweb, ARIES and EMS class scheduling. Many departmental websites across campus rely on SIS data and will be affected as well.

“We have coordinated with the registrar’s office, admissions, the graduate school, users of the ODS Data Warehouse and many other areas,” explained Shawn Baker, manager of application systems in IS. “This weekend was chosen to minimize possible disruption and inconvenience for users.”

The migration will take the full two days. Anyone who regularly accesses ARIES or the ODS or pulls data for reports on weekends should plan to do so on Friday.

“Our current IBM AIX platform has been in use for more than 10 years and it’s coming to the end of its lifecycle,” Baker said. “The Linux platform is where the industry is moving, and by migrating now we will be able to keep our software – and support for the software – current.”
