Peter Lichtenberg, a geropsychology expert at Wayne State University, will be speaking at CSU about “Alzheimer’s Disease, Psychology and the Law: New Assessments of Financial Capacity and Exploitation” on March 20.

Lichtenberg, a professor of psychology, is the director of the Institute of Gerontology and the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute at Wayne State in Detroit. His presentation will shed some light on the intersection of early cognitive decline with loss of financial decision-making ability, heightens the vulnerability of older adults to financial exploitation.

His interest in financial capacity and financial exploitation includes; finding ways to balance autonomy and protection for older adults. In 2013 he published the first nationally representative study on predictors of older adult scam victims, and recently completed the Lichtenberg Financial Decision-Making Rating Scale and the Lichtenberg Financial Decision Screening Scale. He has authored seven books and over 200 scientific articles.
