An evening with smokejumper Jason Ramos

Smokejumper hcJason Ramos will speak about his 26-year-career parachuting into forest fires Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Fort Collins, 425 W. Prospect Road. Ramos is the author of Smokejumper, which describes the path of a 17-year-old volunteer firefighter pursuing his dream of fighting wildfires.

Ramos appears as part of the Evening with an Author Series presented and sponsored by CSU’s Friends of the Morgan Library and the Poudre River Friends of the Library. The event is free and open to the public, doors open at 6:30 p.m. No tickets are required, while seating is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who enjoy reading about the history of unpredictable and dangerous jobs will appreciate this under-the-parachute look at firefighting. Ramos tells his story through the unique perspective of a firefighter combating remote wildfires on the front lines, and compares the history of smokejumping with modern firefighting using his own reflections.

There will be a book sale and signing after the program.

The Hilton Fort Collins, KUNC radio and Old Firehouse Books also support the Evening with an Author Series.
