Get your Earth Week on April 17-26

How big a deal is sustainability at Colorado State? We have so many green initiatives, we need more than a whole week to celebrate Earth Day!

Earth Week is our chance to highlight some of the ways CSU is committed to sustainability every week of the year. Come celebrate all things green every day April 17-26, and check out the University-wide events calendar for more fun every day.

And check out our State of Sustainability webpage that showcases what makes CSU so green, from our Platinum STARS rating to our interdisciplinary research and teaching.

Monday, April 17

7:30-9:30 a.m.: Carpool to Coffee, Parking Lots 310 (Engineering) and 425 (Morgan Library). Free coffee and info about how to save money with a carpool permit for all students and staff who share a ride to campus.

10 a.m.-12 p.m.: Earth, Sun and Fire Tour, CSU Foothills Campus. Free tour of solar array, in-vessel composter, and biomass boiler on the CSU Foothills Campus. Bus departs from Lot 575 (South of the S. College Ave. Garage). An RSVP is required for this tour.

10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: Celebrate Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase, Lory Student Center Ballroom.

Tuesday, April 18

7:30-8:30 a.m.: Bus to Barista, Lory Student Center Transit CenterTransit riders will be rewarded with treats and coupons for a free cup of coffee from Cam’s Lobby Shop.

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Compost Giveaway and E-Waste Collection Event, Parking Lot 740 (Research Blvd. Remote Lot). Bring your own buckets (limited to two, five-gallon buckets) for CSU compost and up to two household electronics for e-waste recycling per CSU employee or student free of charge (no commercial grade/oversize electronics, appliances, or televisions over 24” can be accepted).

2-4 p.m.: Sustainable Futures Fair, Lory Student Center North Ballroom. Job fair open to all majors interested in sustainability. There will be 30-40 companies to network with!

5-6:30 p.m.: Biodiversity Ignite! Avogadro’s Number. Speakers have 5 minutes and 20 slides to talk about the health of the planet in this popular event.

5-7 p.m.: Clothing Swap, Johnson Hall 122. Come be a part of the Student Sustainability Center’s Clothing Swap as part of a sustainable initiative to reduce consumption and prevent clothing waste.

Wednesday, April 19

7-9:30 a.m.: Bike to Breakfast, Plaza between Education and Chemistry buildingsSwing by for breakfast burritos, coffee and treats!

1:30-3 p.m.: Sustainability Milestones Celebration, Bob Davis Hall at Moby Arena (RSVP required

4 p.m.: Distinguished Ecologist Seminar Series: Ruth Shaw, University of Minnesota, Lory Student Center North Ballroom

5-7 p.m.: Clothing Swap, Johnson Hall 122

Thursday, April 20

10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Longboard to Lunch, Northeast Corner of Meridian and University. Hot dogs and fixin’s for Longboarders.

11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Plate Waste Audits, Campus Dining Centers. The Eco Leaders and Live Green Team will be collecting all plate waste from the dining centers to audit how much food is thrown away to encourage diners to take only what they can eat to minimize waste.

4-5:15 p.m.: Eco Leaders Project Showcase, Laurel Village Pavilion. Stop by this showcase of undergraduate research projects by the Eco Leaders to learn about a variety of sustainability-related topics and enjoy refreshments.

4 p.m.: Distinguished Ecologist Seminar Series: Ruth Shaw, University of Minnesota, Lory Student Center North Ballroom

Saturday, April 22

10 a.m.-2 p.m.: CSUnity, meet at Lory Student Center North Ballroom. One-day service opportunity for CSU students to connect with Fort Collins residents while completing outdoor spring-cleaning projects. Through the Colorado State University Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement Office (SLiCE) csunity.colostate.edu.

11 a.m.-5 p.m.: Earth Day Fort Collins, Civic Center Park.

Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25

8 a.m.-5 p.m.: Environmental Justice in the Anthropocene Symposium, Lory Student Center.

Tuesday, April 25

10 a.m.-2 p.m.: EARTH DAY FESTIVAL, Sutherland Sculpture Garden on the West side of Lory Student Center. All are welcome to this free and public festival that showcases booths from campus and community organizations dedicated to supporting a sustainable community. Live music will be provided. This event is rescheduled due to the threat of inclement weather.

11 a.m.: Tree Campus USA and Arbor Day Celebration, CSU Lagoon on West side of the Vietnam Memorial Bridge. Join us to plant five different tree varietals near CSU’s lagoon. Free refreshments, shirts and promotional items donated by the CSU Bookstore. Contact Becca Mueller to volunteer or sign your student group up to plant a tree.

Wednesday, April 26

6:30 p.m.: “Is the Poudre River Ecologically Sustainable? What Does ‘The Science’ Say?” Panel, Behavioral Sciences A101.
